Being able to maintain your bike is as important as being able to ride it. Keeping it running isn't rocket science, all it takes is a few basic tools and a little know how. We can help you get that know how on our regular cycle maintenance courses.
Our courses are tailored to your specific needs and are very relaxed affairs, where questions and interaction is encouraged. There is no need to bring your own bike, just yourself and a pen and paper if you wish to take notes.
The courses take place on Thursday evening in the shop at Temple, just outside Carryduff. They cost £22 person per course payable in advance.
Each course is limited 8 places and lasts 2-3hrs.

All course commence at 7pm unless otherwise stated

The Basics

Aimed at the novice to beginner cyclist, we cover the very basic stuff you'll need to know to get out and enjoy your bike safely.
Removing and installing your wheels, changing a tube, choosing and fitting tyres, adjusting your brakes, performing basic safety checks and keeping your bike running better for longer are just some of the things this "Basics" course covers.

On this course we cover suspension setup, fettling disc brakes, maintaining your gears, correct fit, fixing trailside problems and keeping your machine out on the trail not in the workshop.

Testimonials

I got my mountain bike back there in summer and rode it for months as it came out of the box and it wasn't until I went on the course and learnt how to set up the suspension that I realised just how good a bike it is. I beat my buddies down the hill now, yeehah.
Went on the mountain bike course and can now set my brakes up myself. Still working out the suspension but getting there. Tempted to go on the one to one to learn more.
Took up the road a year ago and found the course a great help. Can fix anything I turn my hand to now using what I learnt as a basis. Good stuff.
I'm amazed how little I know, and how easy most things are! I can now ride out on my own without the fear of getting a puncture or minor mechanical. Best of all, after the bike fit session I'm now comfy on my bike! Brilliant!
My 13yo son and I attended the maintenance course. At first I was a bit sceptical and expected it to be a bit of a sales pitch for the shop. How wrong I was. Covered half a dozen or so basic but key areas really, really well. And delivered in a really informed yet totally informal manner.
I would consider myself a seasoned rider with a good understanding of my bike, so I was skeptical I'd learn anything. It's true I did know a lot of things covered but the sheer wealth of knowledge and experience available more than made up for it. I got to ask the questions I always wanted to ask without the fear of ridicule from my fellow club riders. Well worth the £15. Thank you Real Cycles.
I've been on a few courses before with other local shops but I never learnt anything as the instructor just wasn't very good! This time it was different, the instructor (Steve I think) took the time to ensure everyone understood the aspects covered. Highly recommended.
My knowledge of cycling extended to knowing how to propel myself forward. Last nights maintenance class was very illuminating, I'm beginning to understand not just how to be a better cyclist but how to do basic things to my bike which help to keep it in good order. The class is delivered in a very friendly non-judgemental way where no question is deemed silly.
I attended the maintenance course on Thursday and I was really impressed and enjoyed the evening. I found it much better than looking it up on the internet as we could see first hand how to fix and maintain all the key parts of a bike and we're free to ask questions
